Identified through on-line information from James R. Stettner. -- This was a major mechanical rebuild to the existing 1831 Goodrich organ. The G-compass organ was changed to C-compass. The original short-compass Swell chest was replaced with a new full-compass chest. The 17-note 1845 Hook pedalboard was replaced with a new 26-note pedalboard. The Hook 16' Sub Bass was replaced with a new, smaller-scale 16' Sub Bass of stopped wood pipes, and the original 12-note Hook chest was patched and rebuilt for the new 27-pipe Pedal register. The formerly recessed keydesk with drawknobs in vertical rows on flat jambs was changed to be an attached, projecting keydesk with drawknobs in terraced jambs. The present combination foot levers were also added at this time. The Swell pipework was retained in part, but seems to also incorporate other non-original material. The 8' Gamba is composed of pipes marked "Dul" and "Ses" according to the 1966 Convention Handbook. And the 4' Fugara contains markings that may indicate it was a Principal. The organ remained essentially unchanged in this 1893 form for the next 93 years. The original Swell Oboe was replaced in 1945 according to the fore-mentioned 1966 Handbook. And Bob Newton reports that the original gold leafed, common metal facade pipes were not replaced until the 1940's as well. Some of the original pipes turned-up in the attic of one of the men involved with the replacement, stenciled pipes. These were returned to the church and were on display for many years. I saw them during my years with Andover in the later 1980s. But they have since seemingly disappeared, according to Bob Newton.
