This compact but remarkable instrument was created by blending elements from two existing organs, resulting in a complete and musically versatile solution for a small Episcopal church at a modest cost.
The church’s original “home-built” organ was in decline, and restoring it was no longer considered good stewardship. Still, the instrument contained quality pipework, which was preserved and placed on new windchests. These were combined with a Delaware instrument that had once served as a memorial to Alice M. Colby and had been installed in the former St. Edmund’s Roman Catholic Church in Tonawanda.
The organ was fully reimagined in a bold contemporary style. It was expanded with a vintage 16′ Principal and a new 8′ Hautbois, and pipework from both sources was completely revoiced. The result is a highly capable instrument that supports both congregational singing and full range of organ literature with clarity and character.
