Andrew Henderson on November 18th, 2024:

From The Daily Telegraph (Saint John, NB, July 31, 1889): "It is expected that the work on Leinster Street Baptist Church organ will be finished by the end of the week. The organ proper has been in position for a number of weeks, but the front covering was only put on a day or two ago. The work is now being carried out day and night under the supervision of the builder, Mr. F. A. Peters, Jr., of this city. The organ occupies the back of the pulpit platform and when viewed from the back of the auditorium presents a most handsome appearance. The base of the pipes is painted in crimson with leaves of gold, while their upper parts are a bluish gray. The front is arranged in panels with projecting towers, the ends of the cross sections or wings being of an oblique pattern. Above these are surmounted pipes placed in the form of a segment of a circle. The height of the organ is about 31 feet [?], its width being 35 feet [?]. The cost of the instrument complete is $2,500. It is one of the largest church organs in Canada ... The case of the organ is made of chestnut. The style of architecture is Gothic. the whole work of the organ, including pipes, has been done by Mr. Peters at his factory in this city."
It is likely that the specification provided in the source above is incomplete regarding the Swell stops, although does provide specific information for the two prepared stops in that division.
The church merged with other Baptist Churches to form Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Leinster Street building was sold in 2018 and is used as a wedding banquet venue.
