From The Hamilton Daily Spectator (June 4, 1886): “The new pipe organ has just been placed in position in the gallery of St. James’ R.E. Church, and apparently it is one that the members of the church have every reason to be proud of. It cost $1,000. It is about 7 feet square and 15 feet high. The case is of ash and walnut, and a dozen stops are ranged above the keyboard. The front pipes are painted a terra cotta color, relieved with crimson and gold ornaments and with maroon and chocolate ends. The effect is very good. The tone is said by those who have tried it to be excellent.”

From The Hamilton Daily Spectator (May 6, 1886): “It was decided to put into the church a pipe-organ, with eight stops and fourteen [display] pipes. The case will be 7 feet wide, 4 feet 6 inches deep and 13 feet high, and the value of the instrument will be about $600.” & June 6, 1886: “Under Mr. Aldous’ skillful management all the qualities and capabilities of the new organ were fully brought out. It is a sweet-toned little instrument, is quite powerful enough for the church, and is creditable to the builder, Mr. Walter Spencer, of this city.”
