The Evening Times, cited by David Lenington, was a newspaper published in Sayre, Pennsylvania; according to the Wikipedia article on Sayre, Pennsylvania, "Sayre is part of the Penn-York Valley ("The Valley"), a group of four contiguous communities in New York and Pennsylvania: Waverly, New York; South Waverly, Pennsylvania; Sayre; Athens, Pennsylvania, and smaller surrounding communities with a combined population near 35,000." There is a Waverly, Pennsylvania, but the combined evidence of the newspaper article and the geographic proximity of Sayre, Pennsylvania, and Waverly, New York, makes clear that Waverly, New York, is the correct city.
