This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ.

Identified by Buddy Hyatt, who has heard or played the organ.
This instrument was built and installed in 1966 and dedicated on February 19, 1967. First Baptist had a Hammond Organ for many years prior, and one of the speakers caught fire in the church one Sunday. This was the initial reason the church began the process of selecting a new organ. The Dedicatory Recital was played by Dr. Herbert Max Smith, Professor of Organ at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. The Zimmers were so pleased with this installation that it was used for many years as a showpiece for the company.
