Database Manager on June 10th, 2007:

Updated through online information from James R. Stettner. -- This organ replaced an 1876 Steere & Turner, and was placed between the extant Steere & Turner twin cases. This was an Austin "Chorophone" and the four ranks were Diapason, Flute, Viola, and Dulciana. The 3-sectional Chorophone case had 27 gold pipes arranged: 5-17-5. It was rumored that the remaining mechanical portions of the Steere & Turner were flattened under the wheels of the Austin installation crew's truck - rendering the 1876 organ unrestorable. Andover has since rebuilt the Steere & Turner, and the Austin has been replaced. Its subsequent disposition is unknown. Sources: extant organ documented October 15, 1989.
