Born in England; (father of Douglas G. Chant?); in Chicago, Illinois, by 1855, music dealer, music teacher, organbuilder (1861?)-1864; with Pilcher Bros. firm as Pilcher Brothers & Chant, 1864-1866; operated firm, 1866-1869; partner with William Jackson, 1869/1870; (organ tuner or service thereafter?); (in Florida and died there?).
